17.01 Stop Writing Deprecated Code¶
If you are using AI coding editors like Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot to write LangChain applications, you will inevitably run into a very frustrating problem: Deprecated Code.
The Problem: The Training Data Lag¶
The Generative AI landscape—and LangChain in particular—evolves at breakneck speed. APIs change, objects are deprecated, and massive architectural shifts (like moving from AgentExecutor to LangGraph) happen in a matter of months.
LLMs, however, are static. A model released in 2024 is frozen with the LangChain knowledge of 2024. If you ask an AI coding assistant to "Write a LangChain React Agent," it will enthusiastically generate code using APIs that were deprecated 12 months ago. Your code will error out before it even runs.
The Solution: The LangChain MCP Server¶
To solve this, the LangChain team created an official, public Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server specifically for their documentation.
Instead of relying on the LLM's outdated internal memory, you can attach the LangChain MCP Server directly to your coding agent (like Cursor or Claude Code).
How it Works¶
- Head to the official LangChain documentation.
- Look for the "Copy MCP Server" button.
- Paste that configuration into your coding agent's settings.
This exposes a new tool to your editor called SearchDocsByLangChain.

llms.txt¶
In addition to the full MCP server, LangChain is also a pioneer of the llms.txt standard. Their documentation is highly optimized for AI consumption, making web traversals from agents extremely clean and accurate.
